Happy Anniversary!

The hubs woke me up this morning and greeted me with a “Happy Anniversary!” I forgot what day it was. How sad is that? Today is the 5th anniversary of our civil wedding date. We often forget it and don’t really celebrate it because we don’t treat it as our ‘real’ wedding day. Unlike our no-frills civil ceremony, our wedding ceremony was on June 1 with all of our family and friends present. (See here for our 4-year anniversary a few months ago) . Nonetheless, I do recognize this date as our five-year marriage mark. To celebrate, we’re going out for hot fudge sundaes tonight! Yum!

Happy Anniversary to my bestest friend!

Weekend in Pictures

I went to AC this weekend to attend a convention for work. We left work a little early on Friday and drove down. The convention is from Friday to Sunday, but I only stayed overnight and came back Saturday evening. I had a lot of fun --well the most fun I could have being the only sober person in the room! hahaha... I did take a lot of pictures, but I can only post a couple safely.

While getting ready in my room, I heard this weird noise and looked outside my window. Lo and behold, it was the Trump Helicopter landing on the Trump Casino across from us. I saw 3 figures come out, but I'm pretty sure none of them was the Donald himself!

AC is considered to be the "Vegas" of the East Coast. So although there were casinos-a-plenty, I didn't gamble at all because of the nasty smell of cigarette smoke! Ick, could not stand it even for a hand! Instead, I went shopping. I tried to find a suit for myself and tried on a size bigger than the ones I usually wear, but no dice. I ended up buying yet another hoodie (I seem to buy hoodies even though I've already own several!) and some...baby clothes! I know I really shouldn't buy anything just yet, but it was on sale and they were so cute!

I tried to buy "gender-neutral" clothes but I'm pretty partial to blue (hence the blue sleeper with the cute yellow duckie and even cuter blue booties!). The hubs was nonplussed when I showed him the outfits. Then he said something about how the baby won't be here for a while and we can get all that stuff later. Okay, true, I know. I wasn't even planning on buying any baby-related stuff until I was well into my 7th month, but it was there and I thought it would be cute to buy it. Buying baby stuff is pretty darn fun! I did manage to buy other stuff for myself like this lotion set. I'm not really into scented lotions and the like, but I saw this on-line and figured I'd pamper myself. I only get to be a 'first-time mom-to-be' once in my life,' right?

Adventures at the Doctor

I went to the ob-gyn yesterday for a check-up and to do a test called the multiple-marker or AFP test. It’s basically a standard test offered to women during their 16-20th of pregnancy. I personally don’t think getting the AFP is all that important to me. I was just being a lemming and followed what most pregnant women do and hence took the test. I didn't even know that I could've passed on it. I should get the results on Monday, but it wouldn't change a thing for me.

While at the doc's, I found out that I gained 4.5 pounds since my last visit 2 weeks ago. This means I overshot my goal of gaining a pound a week. Perhaps the 4.5 pounds contributed to the sausage feeling I’m having right now (see below for the whole story). I’m going to start working out again and lifting weights. No hard cardio or anything, but I do want the rest of me toned up. I’d like to be able to physically fit to take care of the baby once it pops out. My flabby arms are my enemy! Die flabby arms! Die!

While at the doc's, I also found out that my lab results got lost. I had about 4 vials of blood drawn the last time I was at the doctors for various testing purposes. Apparently, the lab never got them or if they did, they got lost on the way back. My doc doesn’t understand how it happened since they have an elaborate system of logging in labs, etc. The whole office was very apologetic about the whole thing. Bottom line: I had to have blood drawn and another culture taken from me.

While at the doc's, I heard the little bunny's heart beat. I love hearing the baby's heartbeat. It’s a big reassurance factor it I must say. Each time I hear it, I get really excited and hopeful.

My next appointment is 4 weeks from now and I'm having my anatomical ultrasound done. I can't wait!

Other 'Misadventures'

I got some pregnant lady cat calls this week! Hahah…Some guy passed by in his truck yesterday and yelled out “hey sexy!” to me. I looked around but no one else was there, so he must be talking to me by process of elimination. Weirdo. Did he not see my beer belly aka 4 month-belly hanging out? It sucks cuz I’m still at this “limbo” stage where I’m not overtly pregnant, but I do have a big gut sticking out. Like I said before, I should wear a shirt saying “I’m not getting fat, I’m just pregnant.”

Even though I’m in a limbo stage, I do need to start buying maternity clothes. I felt like a fucking sausage today. I was wearing a beige suit with a skirt that keeps riding up my thighs and cutting into my waist. I couldn’t exactly zip it up all the way; I have a safety pin holding it together in the back. It’s time to retire this suit, I guess, although I wore it 2 weeks ago with no problems!

I’ve been getting by with fastening my skirts and pants with safety pins. I’ve tried on stuff from Mimi Maternity, Motherhood, and A Pea in the Pod (not that I would buy anything from this last store though). Everything was freaking huge. I got these supposedly petite size small pants, tried them on and found it falling off me. On the other hand, I tried on a skirt that fit okay. There really must be something wrong with their sizing. It doesn’t help that I’m short either. All I want is a nice 3-piece suit that I can mix and match and wear for work that is not made out of polyester or rayon or spandex. I don't mind paying money for a nice suit because I know I'll use it. If I don’t find a proper suit soon, what I think I’ll do is just buy regular clothes in a much bigger size. We’ll see. I also got some stuff from Old Navy and the Gap and those clothes were pretty cool.

Tales from a Couch Potato

All I do when I get back from work is cook dinner, eat, and watch TV. My new favorite show is Prison Break. Love it! Yes I know the acting is less than stellar, but I dig it anyway. I think it’s entertaining, plus Wentworth Miller is hotness! I’m also going to be parked in front of the TV for the rest of the year because all my old favorites are back with a new season: Lost, Alias, Desperate Housewives, and Nip/Tuck. Oh yeah! Unfortunately, I’ll have to give up Family Guy on Sundays once Desperate Housewives comes back on.

Okay, off to watch my shows. Have a great weekend everyone!

Much Ado About Nothing

The trouble with maternity wear: My parents came back from the Philippines last Saturday with pasalubongs. My titas over there were very thoughtful enough to buy me some maternity clothes. The problem is, they are not exactly my type of clothes. I know I’m probably coming off like a spoiled brat, but these clothes are a little on the “frumpy” side. I’m really picky when it comes to clothing. I have my own style and I know what I like and don’t like. Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be wearing these clothes. One outfit is this white, peasant-style blouse. This is actually pretty, if it weren’t for the puffy, gathered short sleeves with elastic on it. The matching pants are bright red with a white panel (for your tummy). Oh, and did I mention they were a size large? There are a couple of dresses that are actually cute, except that again, they are a size large. I guess my titas must think I’m the size of an elephant or something since the smallest thing they got was a medium. All the rest was large and XL! Ye gods. Of course I do appreciate the gesture. I especially like the fact that all of them fit correctly height-wise. Unfortunately, I can’t wear any of it to work, which is what I need the most.

Wicked:
I tried with all my might, but I just have to give up on reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire. I hardly ever NOT finish a book; in fact, the only other time I can remember doing so is when I tried to read J.G. Ballard's Crash. I gotta say, Wicked is one hard book to get through. I usually dig fantastical novels and the like, but this one (in my opinion) was too pretentious, verbose, and too darn annoying to get through (even if I did want to see how she became wicked). Nuts.

Right Place, Wrong Time:
My friend Girlie threw a nice little BBQ last Sunday at her home. The invite stated the date and the time, and all of us got there just fine. The hubs and I were a little late since we had another party to go to first, but all in all, we got there at a decent hour. Now our friend Sol calls me yesterday (which was Monday) to ask “Hey? When’s Girlie’s BBQ? Was it yesterday?” I said yes, of course it was. Turns out, Sol was at Girlie’s house that very minute, ringing her doorbell for the BBQ. She drove 2 hours to the BBQ on the wrong day! All I could say was that she was crazy! Sol is our perpetually late friend, but this is by far the tardiest she’s ever been to an event! 24 hours late and then some!

Concert Calendar: I'm trying to watch as many shows as possible. I figure after the little bunny pops out, I won't have the opportunity to go 'gallivating.' So I'm going to check out the White Stripes on September 24, and Across the Narrows on October 1 featuring Interpol and the Killers! Kick-ass!

To my bunny: I want to give a shout-out to the hubs for being such a sweetie. Yesterday, he did all the vacuuming and cleaning of the house and cooked me dinner! Aw! Well, he normally does do all the vacuuming and other house chores (like throw out the trash, yardwork, etc.) but yesterday, he did all that and cleaned the bathrooms (which is what I usually do). Then he fired up the grill and cooked me some hotdogs for dinner. All I did yesterday was lounge around and read! What a sweet guy.

Incidentally, I have just eaten dinner so I look a little big. I'd like to point out though, that this is what my belly usually looks like after a meal whether I am pregnant or not! And I do wonder what my tattoo will look like when I get really huge...

Hurricane Katrina

For the past week and a half, I’ve been getting jokes about the ruckus I have caused in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, etc. At first, I had no clue what they were talking about, but of course it quickly dawned on me they were making a joke about the hurricane. My name has been very popular since the advent of Hurricane Katrina. Now that it has actually hit, no one has made a joke about it.

I saw footage on the news last night of parts of Mississippi and Louisiana submerged in water. It’s so sad. I feel so sad for all the people out there who have lost their homes. I also saw footage of people who chose to stay at home and then had to be rescued from the rooftops of their houses. Hello! If people are telling in advance that a freaking hurricane is going to come and demolish your community, wouldn’t you get the fuck out of there?! I know, I know…it’s probably hard to leave your home behind. For some people, their home is everything they got and they have nowhere else to go. Some people may not even have the means to get out of town or have loved ones who need them to stay. Some people may not have even believed that the hurricane would be that serious. Barring all obstacles aside though, I’d like to save my life more than my personal property and get the hell out of there.

The government doesn’t have a tally yet for many lives were lost due to the hurricane. Fortunately, unlike the terrible tsunami that hit Asia less than a year ago, people were warned in advance of the impending disaster so some people had a chance to escape.

I don’t have any family or friends living in the areas that were hit. The only connection I have is that the hubs and I got engaged in New Orleans in September 2001. I heard last night that the French Quarter was under 9 feet of water! The very area were Mardi Gras is celebrated is under 9 feet of water! Unbelievable. It’ll take years and years and years to rebuild these communities. Just check out the horrible news stories. These communities have to deal with helping the people, getting aid from the government, rebuilding, as well as policing the community since disaster leads to chaos (e.g., looting, assaults, etc.)

My thought and prayers goes out to everyone affected by this natural disaster.
